Online Dating and Rejection

After you've joined an online dating service, filled out your personality profile and sent out emails to prospective online dates all you can do is wait. And wait. And wait. Everything was going good through the first steps and you were anxious to finally meet someone and begin the next stage of your life, hopefully with someone special. After a few days of waiting you are ready to give up because no one has answered your email. Rejection, one of datings pitfalls.

But have you really been rejected? There could be all sorts of reasons that nobody has returned your email. They may be inundated with emails and just haven't gotten to yours yet. Many times the people on the other end of the email you sent have a whole stack of profiles they have printed out sitting next to their computer. Yours might be the magic email when they get to it, you never know.

It's also in your best interest to contact as many people you are interested in as possible. You can't just pick one or two that pique your interest because the odds are against you. If on the other hand you send out 20-30 emails to prospective dates the number are more on your side. And remember that your email needs to be personalized for each person, sending out a form letter will get your email thrown in the recycling bin every time.

Whatever you do don't keep sending emails and trying to contact someone over and over. This will get you in trouble with not only who you are trying to contact but also the dating service. In fact many dating services will terminate your membership if they get to many complaints against you.

You have to remember that there are over 40 million singles looking for companionship on internet dating sites in the United States alone. This does increase your odds of finding someone special, but you cannot take a lack of response personally. After all, you have never met this person nor have they met you, so don't get discouraged.

Now if you are getting actual rejection emails then you need to find out what the problem is. The first place to check is your profile. You have to be honest here. Keep it upbeat and interesting. Don't talk about past failed relationships, no one wants to hear about that. Be honest about who you are and what you are looking for. If your having trouble with your profiles contact your dating service or check their help section. Most dating services provide free assistance with creating the best profile for you.

And lastly, don't give up. The numbers are on your side and finding the perfect match can take some time.
